The small-group ensemble is captured with clarity and warmth, with each instrument well-defined in an intimate aural space. Dreams of You was recorded mostly “live.” The music was composed in advance but with room for improvisation. “We wrote out the chord charts and memorized the melodies and riffs,” Mohney said. “That’s the way they would have done it back in the day.
